Chelsea has been actively engaged with the Central Artic Ocean’s Fisheries Agreement Task Force since 2022. In addition to being an active member of our GAP Task Force, she actively participates in the Exploratory Fishing Working Group, which is the platform discussing the Conservation and Management Measures for exploratory fishing under the Agreement.
Chelsea is based out of the WWF-Canada office. Here, she is currently working with Miawpukek First Nation (Mi’kmaq of the South Coast of Newfoundland) on priority projects, including habitat and blue carbon monitoring and species at risk research as it relates to area-based protection measures for the community.
Chelsea has a background in Marine Biology, Environmental Sustainability, and Resource Management. She is currently completing her PhD in Fisheries Science at the Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland where her researcher focuses on Indigenous Knowledge and local knowledge informing decision making in the fisheries management space.
Chelsea is extremely passionate about fostering community and centring Indigenous values at the forefront of her work. She currently volunteers on her Town’s Council and building a business with her partner focused on health and wellness through connectedness to nature.
