Rod Downie

Interim Director of Science | WWF-UK

ABOUT

Rod is currently the Interim Director of Science at WWF-UK, where he also leads the polar programme. As a non-Arctic office (albeit the Arctic’s closest neighbour), WWF-UK is primarily supporting and enabling the Global Arctic Programme’s core work. However, WWF-UK leads in areas where the expertise sits in the UK (such as, AI-based Arctic sea ice modelling or wildlife from space are good examples).

Whilst today Rod works in both polar regions, his background is in Antarctic science, policy and governance and he started his career with the British Antarctic Survey. He happily spends his time in outdoor pursuits, divided between the mountains and the ocean.
