John Morrison

Director, Conservation Planning & Measures | WWF-US

ABOUT

John has been involved in the development of ArcNet and a separate analysis of the ecological implications of climate projections for the Arctic.

Since 1998, John has supported projects and programmes across the WWF Network in spatial and strategic planning. This generally means facilitating planning sessions with groups of WWF staff to help them organize their thinking – they hold immense knowledge and expertise, and his role to draw out their ideas in plain language, so that teams can be clear on their interests, the current situation, and their theory of how they will change the current situation to improve the health of the planet.

John has university degrees in Geology, Hydrology, and Ecology, but for the most part he tries to use common sense and logic to understand and articulate conservation situations and to develop plans. He relies on his knowledge of natural history and professional conservation biology to provide technical support to WWF staff around the world.

John has many avocations and collections. He is an enthusiastic diver (free- and SCUBA), bicyclist (2 tours across the US), and hiker (20+ Alaskan expeditions). He also has a wood shop and works to build oak arts and crafts furniture.
