About
Matt works to support both a pillar and a workstream of the overall Global Arctic Programme, working towards the establishment of an ocean-wide network of MPAs in ArcNet, and helping to improve governance in the Central Arctic Ocean by helping to ensure the Central Arctic Oceans Fisheries Agreement (CAOFA) is adhered to and is implemented as precautionarily as possible.
Based in the UK, and with a passion in polar oceans, Matt’s areas of work focuses primarily on ocean governance, marine spatial planning and fisheries sustainability. Within the role, Matt also supports the UK Government in polar matters, help coalitions of likeminded eNGOs deliver on polar ambitions and support the network more broadly with it’s oceans 30×30 ambitions.
Matt has always worked in the eNGO space, from working on the UK Fisheries Act at the Environmental Defense Fund, developing Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs) at the MSC to, more recently, cycling across Eurasia to raise awareness for sturgeon conservation prior to joining WWF.
Outside of work, Matt is a huge chillie plant enthusiast, growing whatever varieties he can get his hands on the seeds from. Away from all things green, and whenever finds the time, Matt likes to disappear on his bike with his tent strapped to the back. The more remote and rougher the trail, the better.
