WWF Arctic at IMO’s 2025 Polar Maritime Seminar

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) and Norway’s Chairship of the Arctic Council, in cooperation with the Protection of the Arctic Marine Environment Working Group of the Arctic Council (PAME), are organizing a Polar Maritime Seminar, co-sponsored by Norway as Chair of the Arctic Council, in cooperation with PAME. The seminar is taking place 23-24 January 2025 in at IMO’s headquarters in London.

WWF Global Arctic Programme Melanie Lancaster, senior specialist, Arctic species, will be onsite. She will be presenting on 24 January at 9:30 during session 6: underwater radiated noise.

Her presentation will focus on the PAME project, Underwater noise in the Arctic: understanding impacts and defining management solutions. Phase two of the project is now underway to further characterize the Arctic ocean soundscape, investigate scenarios for noise level predictions to 2030, and model operational and technological scenarios to mitigate underwater noise impacts. Project co-led by Governments of Canada, United States of America and WWF.
