Arctic Arts Project and WWF Arctic Programme establish creative partnership

  • Pan-Arctic

Stockholm, SWEDEN – WWF Arctic Programme and the Arctic Arts Project have established a creative partnership that will take place for the next year. The aim of the partnership is to collaborate on creative initiatives that inspire and educate our audiences about the Arctic. Partnership initiatives between the two organizations will include impactful imagery by Arctic Arts Project artists and information that is backed by the most current science.

The time to limit global heating to 1.5 °C is now. With the Arctic warming nearly three times faster than the rest of the planet, the impacts of climate change can already be seen and felt across the entire region. The Arctic Arts Project and WWF Arctic Programme will look for strategic opportunities to showcase the urgency of protecting the Arctic, limiting emissions worldwide, and how the Arctic is connected to the entire world.

The Arctic Arts Project’s mission is to share with the world an understanding of climate change and the solutions and adaptations we need to mitigate our impact. As a team of photographers, filmmakers, scientists, and educators, the Arctic Arts Project brings some of the most remote places in the Arctic to the rest of the world. This creates visual literacy about the serious impacts of climate change that the region is facing by connecting to audiences around the planet.

WWF Arctic Programme was established in 1992 and is working to ensure that the Arctic is well-managed, biodiverse, and resilient to the impacts of climate change. WWF Arctic Programme’s efforts focus on supporting healthy, viable populations of wildlife; protecting key marine, terrestrial, and freshwater habitats; supporting the well-being of Arctic communities; promoting sustainable energy use, shipping, and economic development; and connecting the Arctic to the rest of the world through advocacy work.

Andrea Sparrow, Executive Producer for the Arctic Arts Project says:

“The Arctic Arts Project is looking forward to a productive relationship with WWF Arctic Programme. Our vision and goals are aligned to bring the most current science to people everywhere, communicated through stunning, relevant imagery. Our mission is to educate people and inspire them to act on behalf of the planet as a whole. Partnering with WWF Arctic Programme will be an even more effective way to accomplish this.”

Ashley Perl, Specialist, Communications for WWF Arctic Programme, says:

“As the Arctic is a faraway place to many across the globe, it is easy to imagine the region as disconnected from yourself. The aim of WWF’s partnership with the Arctic Arts Project is to connect distance audiences to the Arctic, with the hope to inspire people to take climate action – for the Arctic and whole planet.”
