Science communication internship

Our science communication team brings forward new knowledge and science to support decision-makers, experts, and rights- and stakeholders. Much of the knowledge and data that we are working with is spatial, and often stems from technical studies and analyses. An important aspect is translating the results of these studies into information tailored to the knowledge needs and interests of specific groups.

We are looking for an intern for the spring of 2025 to help us translate scientific results into communicative texts and graphics, and to help us organize online outreach, including a crowdsourcing activity. We are looking for somebody interested in the Arctic, curious, well-organized, diligent, and flexible. During the internship, you will have the opportunity to be a part of, and learn about working with tasks ranging from background research and analysis, to proposing solutions, and implementing them. You will be part of a team of passionate Arctic conservation professionals.

The goal of the internship is to provide the intern with the opportunity to:

  • Experience the daily work within the programme.
  • Increase the intern’s professional experience in science communication and public engagement.

To achieve this goal, the intern shall:

  • Help organize a crowdsourcing activity engaging a range of Arctic stakeholders including coastal Indigenous communities.
  • Help translate technical scientific information into more easily digestible format (written and/or visual).
  • Work independently, as well as in collaboration with the programme’s team.
  • Actively participate in the programme’s daily work and provide support on various tasks.

Desirable qualifications

  • Interest in Arctic topics
  • Interest in science communication
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including written English skills
  • Have studied relevant courses, preferably specialising in ecology
  • Interest in public outreach and/or crowdsourcing
  • Flexible to changing needs and priorities
  • Problem-solving mindset and initiative
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Applications are due no later than 31 October 2024.
